Direct Access Provider
Fortunately, residents in Florida are able to choose their own physical therapist and refer themselves for evaluation and treatment without a physician referral or prescription. If their condition is deemed to be outside the scope of physical therapy practice, the physical therapist is required to refer the patient to or consult with a practitioner of record (MD, DO, NP). If physical therapy treatment is required beyond 30 days for a condition not previously assessed by a practitioner of record, the physical therapist is required to have the practitioner of record review and sign the physical therapy plan of care.
